Is it rainproof?

Nylon and Oxford fabric are light and dry quickly; they handle rain better than canvas. A wipe with a sponge is all it takes to clean them.

How should I store it between trips?

Empty it, let it dry open, then store it away from light. A soft bag folds; stuff a leather bag so it keeps its shape.

Is the canvas rainproof?

It copes with a shower, but it isn't a waterproof bag: in steady rain, water eventually gets in through the seams and zip. For a laptop or papers, use a separate pouch.
