Polyamide is the most abrasion-resistant synthetic fibre: it's what bags and parts that rub are made of. That's what lets it take the daily wear of a bag put down and picked up ten times a day. It resists rubbing: the fibre doesn't snag or wear at the corners.

Luggage is refused when full, never when empty: it all comes down to packing order and depth, the dimension that bulges when you pack badly.

Power: non-electric.

Load the bottom first with the heavy things: shoes, wash bag, chargers. The bag keeps its shape and the bottom seam takes the strain evenly.

Roll your clothes rather than folding them: they fill the gaps instead of creating bulges, and it's the depth that makes luggage oversized.

Keep the outer pocket for what you take out on the move — ticket, phone, charger — so you never have to open the main compartment standing in a queue.

Leave room for the trip home: luggage packed to the brim on the way out won't close when you're bringing something back.
