It’s bigger than the usual cabin size (55 × 40 × 20 cm): when flying, it goes in the hold. By car or train, nothing limits it. Rules vary from one airline to another: always check the ones on your ticket.
What capacity do I need for my trip?
Allow 20 to 30 litres for two nights, 40 to 55 litres for a week, and over 60 litres for a long trip or for two.
Is it rainproof?
Leather copes with a shower and develops a patina over time. Wipe off the water, let it dry away from radiators and condition it once or twice a year.
How should I store it between trips?
Empty it, let it dry open, then store it away from light. A soft bag folds; stuff a leather bag so it keeps its shape.

Does it fit as hand luggage?

It's sized for the cabin, but airlines don't all use the same sizer: check the dimensions on this page against your airline's before you travel. Low-cost airlines are the strictest, and it's often the depth — not the length — that catches you out.

How do I look after the leather?

A dry cloth after every trip, and a colourless conditioning lotion twice a year. Leather likes neither water nor radiators: if it gets caught in the rain, let it dry away from any heat source, or it will stiffen. It darkens over time, which is normal.
