Weight comes first

The accepted rule puts a loaded bag at around ten per cent of the child's weight. A school bag that is too heavy or badly adjusted weighs on a growing back, and that plays out over years. The volume should match their age, not the amount of things you would like them to carry.

A bag the child can use alone

Straps they can adjust themselves, zips with large pulls, an outside pocket reachable without putting the bag down: whatever depends on an adult ends up carried by hand. See kids' backpack for school and outings.

Going away for the weekend with the kids

A light format that they carry themselves makes them independent and lightens yours. The kids' travel bag range brings together suitable models, and kids' wash bag completes the set.

For toddlers

A change's essentials take up little room provided the clean and the used never touch. See baby wash bag and changing bag backpack, with a built-in changing mat and an insulated pocket.
