Large men’s travel bag: from 40 L to 100 L, from £29.90 to £191.90

A large men’s travel bag is chosen on three criteria: volume, how you carry it and the material. This selection brings together XXL formats and duffels, wheeled models, convertibles, genuine leather pieces and a few large hiking volumes. The capacities and materials mentioned here are those on the product pages.

The biggest volumes: XXL and duffel

For a week or more, or for camping kit, the big sizes make the difference:

  • The XXL 100L Multifunction Outdoor Travel Bag (£99.90), in waterproof nylon, can also be carried on the back or as a gym bag: it is the biggest volume on the page.
  • The versatile 80 L tactical bag comes in size L (60 × 30 × 25 cm) or XL (68 × 35 × 30 cm).
  • The 55 L tactical duffel can be carried by hand, on the shoulder or as a weekender.
  • The men’s military nylon travel bag and the large multifunction bag are all about toughness for impromptu weekends.

Large wheeled formats

When the bag is full, wheels ease the strain on your shoulders: it is the right choice for an XXL travel bag you cross a station with. The foldable 80L wheeled duffel (£114.90) folds down when empty and keeps a shoulder strap; the multifunction XXL wheeled duffel and the XXL trolley, in S, M or L, are aimed at long stays. Compared with a hard suitcase, they keep the advantage of flexibility in a car boot.

For business travel

The Expandable Business Travel Bag (£124.90), in waterproof Oxford, expands up to 45 L and takes a 17.3-inch laptop; it comes in 52 × 34 × 27 or 47 × 31 × 25 cm. The foldable convertible suit bag 53 L keeps clothes crease-free, and the multifunction faux leather one is designed for suits. The black business bag, also in faux leather, comes in small or large.

Large leather travel bags

For looks, the material matters as much as the volume. In genuine leather, according to the product pages: the Prestige (£109.90), the Premium Leather (£129.90) and the Genuine Leather Holdall (£189.90), the most expensive in the selection. The Heritage and the Vintage combine canvas and genuine hide; the waxed canvas model, the chic canvas and the military style also combine the two materials. In PU or faux leather: the waterproof model with a shoe compartment and the retro crocodile effect, with an adjustable shoulder strap.

Large travel bag or hiking backpack?

The range also shows hiking volumes: 90 L, 65 L with a hydration system, expandable from 50 to 80 L, tactical from 39 to 64 L. They are made for walking a long way with the load on your shoulders. A travel bag, on the other hand, is carried by hand or crossbody, opens wide and stores more easily. For a trek, the hiking backpack; for a stay, a train or a car, the large travel bag.

Which large travel bag should you choose?

  • For a week or more: an XXL or a duffel of 80 to 100 L.
  • To avoid carrying: a wheeled model.
  • For work: the expandable with a laptop compartment, or the convertible suit bag.
  • For a smarter style: genuine leather or the combination of canvas and leather.
  • For sport and the weekend: nylon or Oxford, often with a shoe compartment, like the Men's Large Capacity Oxford Travel Bag (£39.90). For shorter formats, see our selection Men's weekend bag.

A few listings in the collection are described as cabin-compatible: a large travel bag is usually better suited to the hold or the car boot. Always check the dimensions on the listing against your ticket's rules, and pack a separate wash bag for anything that needs to stay within reach.

How to pack a large travel bag properly

A large bag is packed in layers: shoes and heavy items at the bottom, near the wheels or the handle; rolled clothes in the middle; the wash bag, charger and documents in the outer pockets. An overfilled bag is awkward to carry and strains the seams: it is better to have a bag slightly bigger than you need than one stuffed to bursting. For a weekend, a 40 L bag is enough; for a week, allow 60 to 80 L; beyond that, or with sports kit, go for 100 L. Models with a shoe compartment keep the dirty apart from the clean, and those with a wet and dry separation keep a damp towel away from your clothes.
